The Leesburg Town Council, the Economic Development Commission and town staff members honored 12 businesses and individuals for their contributions to the town at an awards ceremony last week.

Several business owners, political leaders and residents attended the reception at the Thomas Birkby House. Plaques were given to winners, with award categories doubling to six from three in the first two years of the ceremony.

Otter Creek Collections was given the New Business award, given to a business that has stabilized or increased revenue growth over its first three years of business, with Market Street Coffee being recognized as a finalist. Arthur's Shoe Repair was given the Heritage award, which is given to a business that has made preserving the integrity and character of Leesburg's history a priority, with English Manor Gardens & Interiors as a finalist.

Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets was a finalist for the Ambassador award, given to a business that supports and promotes the tourism industry, with the Thomas Birkby House winning the award. Fizz Media was given the Innovations award-for a business that utilizes its resources or technology to enhance or promote its product-with Integrative Medicine of Northern Virginia noted as a finalist.

Dominico was given the Home Based Business award, with Kit & Kaboodle Care Service recognized as a finalist. Local lawyer Peter C. Burnett was given the highest honor at the ceremony, the George C. Marshall award, given to a businesses or individual who has demonstrated a commitment to the community above and beyond its regular business contributions. Cobblestones Ltd. Owner and town activist Connie Fletcher was also recognized in the category.
